I have been a primary care physician specializing in Family Medicine for 35 years. I have held various positions with VAMA Greater Houston as an officer and as a member. I was recently also Board Member of the VAMA GH Foundation. I was Vice President of VAMA (national level) for the past several years. This year I have been elected to be the 2026-2028 President of VAMA GH.

VP External Affairs | Thao Nguyen, MD
I am Dr. Thao Nguyen, a current assistant professor at UTHealth Houston in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. I would like to accept the nomination for VP of External Affairs at VAMA-GH. I have been a highly active member of VAMA for the past 10 years. Since joining, I have been highly active in the VAMA scholarship committee, along with chairing the program for 4 years. In addition, I have been the secretary of the VAMA-GH for the past 2 years. I believe with my experience and expertise, I can continue to broaden the reach of VAMA throughout our community and beyond. It is also my goal to outreach junior physicians and medical students to promote the next generation of VAMA-GH.
Secretary | Thai Dang, MD
I thank you for the nomination for VAMA Secretary. I am a nephrologist. I have been practicing for 15 years and have spent all of them Kelsey Seybold Clinic near the Texas Medical Center, initially as a hospitalist and now clinic based internal medicine. Outside of work, I am a personal driver for my 2 boys for their sports activities. I also enjoy playing board games with my family, grilling food, racket sports and the occasional appearances at the gym. I look forward to using my experiences to help our community.
Interim Treasurer | Hoa "Kim" Vo, MD
Dr. Hoa “Kim” Vo is a physician and philanthropist who completed a BS/MD program at Kent State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University, followed by an internal medicine residency at William Beaumont Hospital, Michigan in 2000. After 20 years in private practice focusing on internal medicine and aesthetics, she transitioned into finance and philanthropy, now managing her Family Office and Foundation. She is also active on the Board of Advisors for Sunflower Mission and JP Morgan’s Client Advisory Council. She actively supports VAMA’s goals of mentorship for Vietnamese student physicians, social support for practicing physicians, and health advocacy for the Vietnamese community.
Interim Parliamentary | Doanh Nguyen, MD
Dr. Doanh Nguyen is a board-certified allergist and immunologist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Allergy & Immunology, the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Nguyen earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Houston and his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University, followed by fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at All Children’s Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine through the University of South Florida. Since 2015, he has served as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Nguyen’s current research, conducted through the Texas Allergy Group Clinical Research Unit and the Institute for Allergic Inflammation, focuses on systemic allergic inflammation, inflammatory load, biomarker stratification, and mechanisms of immune tolerance disruption. His work explores the relationship between chronic airway inflammation and systemic manifestations, including epithelial dysfunction, proteinuria, thyroiditis, viral activation, and early autoimmune processes. He is committed to advancing biomarker-guided approaches to identify and address inflammation before irreversible organ complications develop. In addition, Dr. Nguyen has extensive expertise in mast cell disorders, including Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), chronic urticaria, angioedema, and complex mast cell–mediated inflammatory conditions. He provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and individualized, patient-centered treatment for individuals with multisystem inflammatory and mast cell–related disorders. Dr. Nguyen has been an active and dedicated member of the Vietnamese American Medical Association of Greater Houston for over a decade, previously serving as Secretary and Vice President. He remains committed to supporting the organization’s mission of professional collaboration, mentorship, community service, and advocacy for the Vietnamese American medical community. As Parliamentarian, he looks forward to helping uphold the integrity of the organization’s governance and contributing to its continued growth and impact.
